cor|net1 «kr NEHT; also for 2 KR niht», noun.
1. a musical wind instrument like a trumpet but having a wider bore. It is usually made of brass and has three valves that control the notes. The tone of a cornet is more singing than that of a trumpet.
2. a) a piece of paper rolled into a cone and twisted at one end, used to hold candy, nuts, or the like. b) a pastry shell shaped like a cone, often filled with whipped cream. c) British. a wafer shaped like a cone for holding ice cream; ice cream cone.

1. a large, spreading, white cap worn by Sisters of Charity.
2. formerly: a) an officer in a British cavalry troop who carried the flag. b) a troop of British cavalry.
